Solution 02

Scalable Cloud Applications

Responsive experiences backed by resilient systems that scale with demand.

Fast in front, durable behind

An interface is judged on how fast it answers. The system behind it is judged on what it does when traffic spikes or a dependency stalls. Keeping both means being deliberate about what belongs inside a request and what does not.

Where the boundaries go

  1. 01

    The front end loads first

The interface renders and becomes usable before back-end services are engaged, so a slow dependency degrades one area rather than the page.

  2. 02

    Services carry bounded work

Application areas split into services with generated client libraries, making integration a versioned dependency instead of code rewritten per team.

  3. 03

    Slow work leaves the request

Background and queued processing keep long or bursty work off the user’s request, so a spike in demand queues instead of failing.

  4. 04

    Identity crosses explicitly

OAuth2 and OIDC boundaries with claim-based context carry the user between services, so no service reimplements trust.

  5. 05

    Failure stays traceable

Shared telemetry and OpenTelemetry context follow a call across service boundaries, so a failure is read rather than reconstructed.

Where this has run

Customer self-service portal

Career record

Architecture and delivery for a high-traffic portal spanning many application areas. The work included a microservice restack, project templates, generated service-interaction libraries, and repeatable AWS delivery.

AWS

Career record

ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SNS and SQS, Secrets Manager, IAM, S3, CloudFront, CloudFormation and SAM, including migrations onto AWS. This is the deepest of the three platforms.

GCP

Career record

Reusable Terraform delivery patterns, state bootstrap behaviour, and keyless credentials through workload-identity federation.

Azure

Career record

Identity and integration work plus platform experience including Azure OpenAI. Deliberately narrower than the AWS evidence.

Systems integration, earlier

Career record

Enterprise enrollment and document platforms integrating many disparate systems, with high-volume document conversion, OCR, and transfer.
